Accounting Software Ireland
Choosing accounting software Ireland businesses can actually rely on comes down to three things: does it bill in euro without a workaround, does it keep your data where you expect it to sit, and does it file anything without asking you first. WDI Billing was built around those three answers, for sole traders, contractors and small limited companies who are tired of software that treats Ireland as an afterthought.
Plenty of accounting platforms sold into the Irish market were designed elsewhere and localised later. The seams show. Irish businesses invoicing Irish and UK customers have found their base currency defaulting to USD, VAT terminology borrowed from another jurisdiction, and no clear answer to "where does my data actually live." WDI Billing starts from Ireland outward: euro as the native currency, Revenue and ROS as the reference points for filing, and your books staying your books.
Euro-native billing, not a currency bolt-on
This is the pain point Irish business owners raise most often: invoicing and reporting that assumes USD as the default and euro as an add-on. If you've ever had to fight a platform to get an invoice to show EUR correctly, or reconcile a SEPA payment against a report priced in the wrong currency, you know the friction. WDI Billing prices, invoices, and reports in euro from the first screen - no region hacks, no currency-conversion guesswork on your own sales. See how this plays out in practice on our invoicing software page and in our direct comparison with Xero.
Your books stay yours: GDPR and EU data residency
Irish buyers ask about data residency unprompted more than almost any other market we serve - and rightly so. WDI Billing keeps your data on EU infrastructure, governed by GDPR, with no requirement to route your records through a jurisdiction outside the Union. Your invoices, your customer records, your VAT workings: they belong to you, they export cleanly, and there is no lock-in forcing you to stay simply because leaving is painful.
Three modes: Records, Prepare, File
Most accounting software makes a binary choice for you - either everything is manual, or everything is automated and things get submitted on your behalf without a final human check. WDI Billing gives you three modes instead:
- Records - your day-to-day bookkeeping: invoices, expenses, bank transactions, all captured and categorised.
- Prepare (the default) - your VAT3 and other returns are fully prepared and ready to go, but nothing is transmitted automatically. You review it, then you press file.
- File - when you're ready, submission happens through the Revenue Online Service (ROS) in the way Revenue expects, on your instruction.
This matters more in Ireland than the marketing usually admits. Automatic filing sounds convenient until a mistake goes to Revenue before you've had a chance to catch it. Prepare mode means the return is ROS-ready, correct, and waiting - not already gone.
ROS-ready VAT3, built for how Irish businesses actually file
VAT3 is the return, ROS is where it goes, and WDI Billing is built to get you there without translation. Your VAT is tracked against Irish rates and rules throughout the year, so when a VAT3 period closes, the return is already sitting in Prepare mode, checked and ROS-ready. Full detail is on our VAT software page, and our guide to filing the VAT3 return walks through the ROS submission step by step.
Built for sole traders, contractors and small Ltd companies
Whether you're a sole trader raising your first invoices, a contractor dealing with Relevant Contracts Tax, or a small limited company managing a handful of directors and a bookkeeper, WDI Billing scales to how you actually work rather than forcing you into a practice-management system designed for accountancy firms. If you're weighing up structures, our guide on sole trader vs limited company in Ireland lays out the practical accounting differences, and our dedicated sole trader accounting software page covers what changes if you're filing a Form 11 rather than running payroll through a company.
Where WDI Billing fits against what you know today
If you're currently on Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, or one of the Irish natives - Big Red Cloud, Surf Accounts, Bullet, Sort My Books or AccountsIQ - you already know what you like and what frustrates you about your current setup. We've written honest, feature-by-feature comparisons rather than vague marketing claims:
- WDI Billing vs Xero - euro-native billing versus Xero's USD-first design
- WDI Billing vs Sage
- WDI Billing vs QuickBooks
- WDI Billing vs Big Red Cloud
- WDI Billing vs Surf Accounts
- WDI Billing vs Bullet
Switching is straightforward too - see our Xero alternative guide if you're ready to move.
Ready for what's coming, without pretending it's here already
Ireland's move toward mandatory e-invoicing under VAT Modernisation is real - large corporates managed by Revenue's Large Corporates Division go first for domestic B2B, with mandatory scope extending to VAT-registered businesses trading cross-border within the EU from late 2029 ahead of the full EU ViDA cross-border B2B mandate the year after - but for most sole traders and small companies it's still some years out. WDI Billing is Peppol-aware and building toward that future now, so you're not caught flat-footed when it lands - covered in more depth on our Revenue e-invoicing software page and our e-invoicing Ireland timeline guide. For now, Ireland remains a privacy-durable market: nothing is mandated to stream automatically to Revenue, and WDI Billing is built to keep it that way for as long as that's true, and ready for the day it isn't.
Receipts and documents, without the manual re-typing
Every invoice, receipt and supplier bill can be captured through document ingestion rather than typed in line by line. AI-assisted scanning is available if you want it - reading amounts, dates and VAT rates off a photographed receipt - but it's entirely opt-in. WDI Billing works perfectly well without AI turned on: you can capture, categorise and reconcile documents manually and lose nothing. The choice is yours, not a default someone else made for you.
Bring your accountant in, without handing over the keys
Nearly every Irish sole trader and small company works with an accountant or bookkeeper at some point, whether for the VAT3, the Form 11, or year-end accounts. WDI Billing supports break-glass accountant access: your advisor can see exactly what they need, when you grant it, rather than holding permanent standing access to everything in your account by default. When it's time to hand off, clean exports mean your figures move with you rather than being trapped in a proprietary format - more on this on our accounting software for accountants page.
Straightforward, euro-priced plans
No per-invoice fees, no USD pricing converted awkwardly at checkout, no surprise tiers. See exactly what's included on our pricing page, priced natively in euro.
